Accessibilty

Last Updated: May 26th, 2026

Our Commitment

Dakota Center for Independent Living is committed to making our website accessible to everyone — including people with disabilities. We believe that access to information is a right, not a privilege, and we work to ensure that this site reflects that belief.

Our Standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA — the widely recognized standard for web accessibility. These guidelines help ensure that content is:

  • Perceivable — Information is presented in ways people can see, hear, or otherwise sense
  • Operable — Navigation and interactive elements work for people using keyboards, screen readers, or other assistive technologies
  • Understandable — Content is written in plain language and behaves in predictable ways
  • Robust — Content is compatible with current and future assistive technologies

What We’ve Done

As part of our recent website updates, we took a number of steps to improve accessibility across the site:

  • Reviewed and updated color contrast ratios to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards
  • Ensured all navigation elements are keyboard accessible
  • Added descriptive alt text to images throughout the site
  • Used clear, consistent heading structures to support screen reader navigation
  • Ensured form elements are properly labeled
  • Adopted a modern, flexible layout system that supports text resizing without loss of content or functionality

Known Limitations

We’re continually working to improve. There may be some older content or third-party embedded elements (such as videos or external forms) that don’t yet fully meet our accessibility standards. We’re committed to addressing these as we identify them.
